After another rehabilitation stint
Eric continued his career as a Bull Dog, while finishing his
college degree in physical education. After being drafted
by the Seattle Mariners in the 1984 Supplemental draft, Eric
started his Professional career with the Salinas Spurs
Low A ball Seattle affiliate. Eric played for a year
in Salinas and was then promoted to the Chattanooga Lookouts
organization, which was a Seattle Mariners AA affiliate.
From there the Team transferred to Burlington Vermont, and was
known as the Vermont Mariners. Here Eric played
outfield with Ken Griffey for a year at the AA
level.
The following year Eric was released, and picked up
by the Oakland
A's organization, where he was initially played for the AA
affiliate in Huntsville Alabama. Here he played with Ozzie
Canseco, Jose's brother. From Huntsville, Eric was
promoted to the Oakland A's AAA affiliate, where he began
regular play as the Tacoma Tigers starting center
fielder.
In 1993 Eric was called up to the Oakland A's Major
league team, and played on a team that had the likes of Dennis
Eckersly, Scott Brosius, Mark McGuire, Jose Canseco, Dave
Henderson, Ricky Henderson, Dave Stewart, Mike Bordick, and
Terry Steinbach, Walt Weiss, Jerry Browne, Lance Blankenship,
Willie Wilson, Randy Ready to name a few. Eric's first major league
hit was a home run off Toronto's ace pitcher Juan Guzman. The
highlight of the 1993 season came on June 29th, when Oakland was
facing Minnesota in a 3 game series, with Minnesota leading the
AL West. In the third and final game of the series, with
Oakland down 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning, Eric came to
bat against the Twin's ace reliever Rick Aguelera. Batting
left this time, Eric jacked a game winning home run into
the right field bleachers of the MetroDome. Oakland went
ahead in the AL West race and never looked back.
The 1994 season found Eric back in Oakland, with a
centerfield bleacher fan following affectionately known as the
"Fox Hounds" This season highlights included a
grand slam against Detroit, and a left field bleachers
home run, batting from the right side of the plate, off
Seattle's ace Randy Johnson.
In 1995 Eric was released by the Oakland A's and picked
up by the Texas Rangers, where he played again with Jose
Canseco, Juan Gonzales, Pudge Rodriguez, and Rusty
Greer.
